It's beginning to look a lot like winter!
It is chilly outside in the morning! Please send your child with a coat. If they need one for in the classroom it should be red, navy blue or white with minimal writing on it. Names inside the jacket would be great too. They all start to look alike!
Please continue to contribute to our canned food drive and jacket drive if you can. It will benefit our school families as well as the entire community.
New spelling words this week. Study, Study!!
Soon we will be starting a Holiday project. Look for instructions to come soon. Your student will need a little help from you and a poster board!
Have a super week!

Corn! Corn! Corn!
Happy turkey time everyone! This week will be full as it will be our only complete week until we return from Thanksgiving break. We will be studying the pilgrims and the native americans that came before them. We will also be thinking and talking about what we are thankful for. We are trying to build a gratitude tree in our classroom.
Please donate canned corn if you can this week. We are in charge of providing it for the Thanksgiving feast that will take place here at the school on Tuesday, the 23rd of November. Looking forward to all of the yummy food!!
You may notice in the homework packets this week some math involving carrying. We will study it in class everyday starting Tuesday. However, please feel free to work with your child on this process as much as you feel appropriate. Don't get to the frustration point. I am trying to identify just how much they already know in regards to this process.
Spelling words are remaining the same as last week's words. We had very little time to work with them and it showed on the test. Let's try it again and get those words down!!

Thanks to our wonderful Veterans!!
I hope you had an awesome weekend. The cooler temperatures are upon us and it is feeling great outside at play time! Last week we had a good return rate for our homework packets. Good job kids! This week you will find your spelling words attached as well.
Remember there is no school on Thursday. It is Veteran's Day and we are thankful for all of their service.
Our field trip to the Children's Museum is on Friday. We will be leaving the school by 9:30 and welcome any other volunteers who would like to join us. The cost for you and your child is $4.50 and you can meet us there or ride on our bus. We will be going with Ms. Rios' class. Remember to pack a lunch for yourself and your child.
Check the LaPaloma Lakeside link for more info on the home page. There is a Pizza night at Peter Piper's tomorrow!!!

Thankful in November
Welcome to November! October has come and gone in the blink of an eye. We had a succesful month and a wonderful Harvest Fest. Thanks so much to all of you who generously gave to our candy drive and who donated time to our duckie booth!
On to November. This month we are moving on to adding double digits. Everyone did great on the pre-test and we are ready to start carrying by next week.
In Literacy, we are of course continuing our Saxon phonics. In addition, we will be working on detailed paragraph structure and spelling.
This month will be the beginning of our New World unit. We will study the Native Americans and the coming of the pilgrims to America. We will also study gratitude and ponder on the things that we are thankful for!
Keep posted for announcements regarding more holiday celebrations at La Paloma and break dates.

One quarter down!
Here we are, nearly one-quarter over. It is remarkable how fast time flies and how much your children have progressed. I am very happy with our latest round of reading assesments. Every student in my class made considerable improvements in the area of reading, writing and comprehension. That is fantastic and makes me look forward to the next quarter. It will be a quick one. We all know how fast the holidays go by and before we know it, it is January of a new year. We will be working very intensely in the second quarter to meet all of the benchmarks we need.
But until then, let's talk about upcoming events. We will have two and a half days of school this week.
Remember, Thursday and Friday there will be no school. October 29th LPA will have our Harvest Fest
Celebration. Our class will have a duck pond with prizes as our booth. I am in need of volunteers to man the booth that night as well as lots of candy and prize donations, if possible. It should be a super fun night for
the entire family.
I hope you have a great little break this weekend and do something relaxing and fun with your family.
You deserve it. See you next week!
P.S. No spelling words this week!

Here comes October!
My favorite month is quickly approaching!
We will have a lot of activities going on in the class room in the next few weeks. Please be checking your student's homework folder every night for updates.
Most importantly, please mark October 7th as a day to make sure your child attends school. This is our 40th day and we will be celebrating it by having a apple feast! As we study apples we are taking note of all the foods that we can make with apples. I will be sending home a sign up sheet for apple treats to bring in to our apple feast on the 7th! Make sure your child can attend.
Please continue to support your child in their homework studies as well as reading. We are committed to reading 280 books as a class in order to help donate 1 million books to needy kids thru Scholastic books.
We are excited to help others in this way.
Book orders are due on Friday.
As always have a fantastic week!

Welcome, Fall!!
Supposedly fall is here. That is easily argued when stepping outside! However, we are glad the cooler weather is slowly approaching our playground!
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend.
This week we will be working on fractions, estimating and word problems in our classroom.
In reading we will continue learning to code our words. We will be writing about Johnny Appleseed
and working on learning some tougher spelling words.
As always, I appreciate all of your support and look forward to helping you in any way I can
with your student. Parent-teacher conference openings are still available this week. Please contact me if you would like a spot. You can sign up on the bulletin board outside of my room.
Have a super week!

September, already?!
Welcome to my first posting on my new blog! I can hardly believe that it is already September. It seems like yesterday I was meeting my new students. Since then we have had a great time getting to know each other and learn about our school and classroom procedures. I am happy to announce that the students have adapted quite well to morning and afternoon routines.
This week we have some exciting events happening. I hope you will find time to stop by and participate in some of them.
Sept.1 Open House 6-8p.m.
Sept 1-3 Scholastic Book Fair
Sept 6 Labor Day/No School
Please check back to this blog regularly. Spelling words for this week's test are located on this blog under August 30th. Next week I will post new words, homework and any other important announcements.
Thanks to the families that returned their Highlights subscription request forms. We were able to earn some free gifts for our class because of your participation! A special thanks to all of the parents who donated books for our class from our Book Fair class wish list! We love them!
